Pigs in a Blanket is the American version of everyone's favorite sausage roll. A delicious and quick to prepare snack made from 4 ingredients.
“Pigs in a blanket” is a dish with German roots that has gained recognition all over the world. The unusual name hides a delicious pastry familiar to most of us - pork sausage wrapped in a delicious “blanket” of golden brown dough.
The British often serve this dish at Christmas, and Americans, Canadians, Irish, Danes, Swedes and Australians do not limit themselves to holidays and parties, and often include “pigs in a blanket” in their daily menu.
Each country slightly modernized the original recipe, adding 1-2 ingredients typical of the national cuisine. In England, for example, bacon is sometimes added to the filling; in other countries, various cheeses, seasonings and sauces are added.
Today, I propose to prepare the simplest in composition and easiest to execute version of this dish. So, are you ready to try a new recipe? Then let's go!!!
Ингредиенты
Puff pastry – 250 g
Sausages – 300 g
Yolk – 1 pc.
Mustard – 1 tbsp.
Poppy - 2-3 pinches (optional)
Sesame – 2-3 pinches (optional)
Wheat flour - for working with dough
Рецепт
1. Thaw the puff pastry, place it on a lightly floured table and roll it out into a square about 2-3 mm thick.
2. Cut the dough horizontally in the middle and then vertically into strips of such width that they turn out a little narrower than the sausages you bought. Thus, during the baking process, the ends of the sausages will slightly brown and will peek appetizingly out from under the crispy “blanket” of puff pastry.
3. Grease each strip of dough with mustard, leaving approximately 1 cm from the edge.
4. Place a sausage at the base of each strip and roll the dough into a roll.
5. Place the pieces on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. The ends of the dough strips should be on the bottom so that the dough does not unfold during baking. If the kitchen is hot, and by this time the dough has become soft and does not hold its shape, place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes so that it cools and hardens again.
6. Separate the egg yolk from the white and stir it lightly with a fork. We don't need protein.
7. Brush the surface of the dough with yolk.
8. If desired, decorate each piece with a pinch of sesame or poppy seeds.
9. Place the baking sheet in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 13-15 minutes, until the “pigs in a blanket” acquire an appetizing golden color.
10. “Pigs in a blanket” is ready! It is best to serve the appetizer hot, because in this case the beauty and multi-layeredness of the puff pastry will be fully revealed. Enjoy your meal!
