I want to share with you a recipe for a comfortable, simple and incredibly delicious dessert, which is always popular in my family during the cold season - a recipe for aromatic crisp with apples and nuts.
Apple crisp is a traditional American dessert. At its core, the dish is a cross between a pie and a fruit casserole, consisting of a layer of juicy apple slices coated with crispy confectionery crumbs (streusel), prepared with the addition of oatmeal, nuts and spices. It takes a minimum of time to prepare such a dessert, but the aroma and sweet and sour, with caramel and nutty notes, taste, as well as the combination of juicy filling and crispy dough are simply magical. This dessert is good both chilled and warm, complemented by a scoop of ice cream or a spoonful of yogurt. A great option for a cozy dessert that can be prepared in a few minutes. Be sure to try it!

Streusel:
Wheat flour – 60 g
Brown sugar – 85 g
Oat flakes – 60 g
Walnuts – 50 g
Corn flour – 2 tbsp.
Salt – 0.25 tsp.
Cinnamon – 0.5 tsp.
Butter – 60 g+ for greasing the pan
Filling:
Green apples - 500 g
Corn starch – 1 tbsp.
Brown sugar - 2-3 tbsp.
Cinnamon – 0.5 tsp.
Vanilla sugar – 10 g
Lemon juice – 1 slice
Ice cream - for serving (optional)

1. Combine wheat and corn flour, sugar, salt, 0.5 tsp. cinnamon, chopped nuts and oatmeal. Add cooled butter, cut into small pieces. To prepare crisp, use classic oat flakes - not instant oats.
2. Mix everything thoroughly and rub the mixture with your hands until the butter pieces turn into fine crumbs and the mixture becomes crumbly. Place the mixture in the refrigerator while you prepare the filling.
3. Peel the apples, remove the seed capsule and cut into small pieces. In the homeland of the dessert, apples are often cut into large pieces so that even after baking they remain slightly crispy. If the apples were chopped finely (as suggested in this recipe), then during baking they will cook completely and become soft.
4. Place the apple slices in a bowl and drizzle with the juice of 1 lemon wedge.
5. Add starch, 2-3 tbsp. sugar, 0.5 tsp. cinnamon and vanilla sugar. Mix everything well.
6. Grease a baking dish with a little butter. I use a mold with a diameter of 26 centimeters.
7. Add apple filling. At this stage, it may seem like there is too much filling compared to the dough, but as the apples bake, they will shrink in size and the ratio of filling to dough will become more proportional.
8. Add the prepared mixture of dry ingredients to the pan and carefully level it so that the mixture covers the apples in an even layer.
9. Place the crisp in an oven preheated to 190 degrees and bake for 30-35 minutes until the top of the dessert turns golden.
10. Apple crisp is ready. Cool the dessert slightly and then serve, topped with a scoop of ice cream if desired.
