Melted mozzarella cheese in a crispy golden carriage is a quick, easy and incredibly delicious Italian dish.

Mozzarella in carrozza is a delicious version of a hot cheese sandwich. A very simple, satisfying and tasty dish of traditional Italian, and more precisely, Neapolitan cuisine. The time of its invention is considered to be 1800, and during all this time, to this day, the dish has not lost a drop of its popularity and popular love. It is prepared both in restaurants and at home. On the other hand, why be surprised?! A delicious hot sandwich stuffed with melted cheese is one of those dishes that you never get tired of.

When I first heard the name “carriage mozzarella,” I wondered where it came from. It turned out that the whole point is that in those days the most typical bread for Italy was round in shape, and cut into slices, it looked like carriage wheels. In addition, a circle of mozzarella, placed between two round pieces of bread, appeared as if in a box or, as was more common for that time, in a carriage. But the most interesting thing is that this is not all! Once you take a bite of this delicious hot sandwich, the melted mozzarella will trail behind it like the “reins” of a carriage! Now you have real mozzarella in the carriage!

Ингредиенты

White toast bread (yesterday's) - 8 slices

Mozzarella – 1 ball (130 g)

Milk – 150 ml

Wheat flour – 3 tbsp. (with a slide)

Chicken egg – 2 pcs. (of necessity)

Salt - to taste

Ground black pepper - to taste

Olive/vegetable oil – for frying

Рецепт

1. Cut the crust off the toast bread. It is best to use yesterday's bread.

2. Cut the mozzarella into slices approximately 0.5 cm thick.

3. Place mozzarella slices on the prepared pieces of toast bread, cover with a second piece of bread and lightly press the layers together - you will get a kind of “sandwich”. If the flexibility of the bread crumb allows, you can pinch the edges by connecting the top and bottom pieces of bread together.

4. In a deep plate, beat the eggs, first adding a little salt and ground black pepper.

5. Take one “sandwich” of mozzarella bread, quickly dip it in milk (on both sides), and then (also on all sides) roll in flour.

6. Dip the sandwich into the beaten egg.

7. Place in a frying pan with heated vegetable oil and fry over medium heat until golden brown on both sides. Repeat the entire process with the remaining sandwiches.

8. Place the fried sandwiches on a napkin for a few seconds to remove excess vegetable oil, and then serve.

9. Mozzarella in the “carriage” is ready! Enjoy your meal!
