Dyed eggs in nettles turn out soft green, but not a rich green hue!
Many people prefer not to dye eggs with store-bought dyes, but to use natural ones: nettle, turmeric, red cabbage, hibiscus, etc. I decided to try to paint chicken eggs with nettles for Easter, since such a plant has already grown in our region for this holiday. I can’t say that I really liked the result - nettle gives only a slightly noticeable greenish tint. But I used a fresh plant. Perhaps the dried kind, which is sold in pharmacies, will give a different result?!
In principle, a slightly greenish shell looks more delicate than bright green colored eggs. But a large volume of eggs will require a lot of plant. I boiled 5 eggs in a liter container with a large bunch of nettles. Remember that the shells of the eggs should be white, the color will be almost invisible on the brown shells!
So, prepare the necessary ingredients and let's start cooking!

Chicken eggs - 5 pcs. (white)
Nettle - 1 large bunch (30-40 g)
Water - 0.6 l
Salt - 3 pinches
Vinegar 9% - 1 tbsp.

1. Wash the nettles and chicken eggs in water, put half of the plants in a pan, and chicken eggs on them.
2. Add more nettles on top. It is best to wear gloves to avoid getting burned by this plant.
3. Pour in cold water so that it covers the eggs. Place the container on the stove and boil from the moment of boiling for about 12-15 minutes. Add salt.
4. Nettle will color the liquid bright green. Pour vinegar into a container and mix lightly. At this stage the eggs will not be colored yet! Leave them in the container until they cool completely, turning them over from time to time so that no white circles remain on the shells.
5. After cooling, remove the nettle-colored eggs from the container and wipe with a towel or napkin. If desired, you can grease them with vegetable oil.
